AI & Digital Transformation Internship in the ICT Unit

Date:  6 Nov 2026

The ICT Unit at Oxfam Novib is modernizing its digital landscape and strengthening how data and technology support our mission. Alongside digital transformation (which we are undergoing), we are exploring responsible AI and automation using our Microsoft Azure and other environment and other approved tools. Our aim is to reduce manual work, improve access to trusted information and enable better decision-making.

This internship will support our digital transformation by exploring, prototyping and testing practical AI solutions. Working with ICT, Data, DevOps and business colleagues, you will investigate use cases such as document search, information extraction, data quality and workflow automation. You will learn from experienced colleagues and work with approved or non-sensitive test data under supervision.

Key Tasks

  • Explore AI opportunities: Work with teams to identify repetitive tasks and realistic AI use cases in finance, programs, knowledge management and ICT.
  • Develop AI prototypes: Help build small proof-of-concept solutions using Python, APIs and suitable Microsoft Azure AI services under supervision.
  • Improve knowledge access: Explore AI-assisted search, document classification and summarization using approved tools and content.
  • Connect data and AI: Support controlled use of data from approved sources and integrations through the Microsoft Azure environment.
  • Support automation: Prototype simple workflows for information extraction, validation or routing with scripts or automation tools.
  • Test AI outputs: Evaluate accuracy, usefulness, reliability and limitations; identify incorrect results, bias or other risks.
  • Apply responsible AI practices: Follow data protection, confidentiality, security and human-review requirements when designing and testing solutions.
  • Document and share findings: Maintain clear technical notes, test results and recommendations; present learning and demos to ICT and business colleagues.

Who Are We Looking For?

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related field.

  • Basic Python programming skills and an interest in working with APIs, JSON and datasets.
  • Awareness of large language models, prompting, evaluation or retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) is an advantage.
  • Interest in Microsoft Azure AI tools, cloud platforms and enterprise applications; previous professional experience is not required.
  • Analytical and curious, with good problem-solving, testing and documentation skills.
  • A collaborative mindset and ability to communicate clearly in English; Dutch is an advantage.
