Oxfam Novib Uganda is looking for Communications Assistant.
Duty Station: Kampala with regular field travels
Type of appointment: Fixed-term Contract
Contract duration: 6 Months, With Possibility of renewal depending on budget and performance
Work schedule: Full-time 40 hours per week
Reports to: Media and Communications Coordinator
Salary & Scale: D2
Start date: As soon as possible

CONTEXT
Oxfam in Uganda started work in the 1960s delivering development and humanitarian support as part of the Oxfam confederation, a global movement of people fighting to end inequality and injustice. Today, we continue to tackle the inequalities that make and keep people poor. We save and protect people’s lives in times of crisis. We work with people to build their resilience and rebuild their livelihoods. We enable vulnerable people’s voices to be heard and campaign for genuine, durable change.
OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION
The primary responsibility of this position is to provide communications program support and communications administrative support in line with media and communications.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical:
Project Documentation and Field Visibility
- Travel to project sites to collect stories, case studies, photos, and videos that showcase the impact of the organization's work.
- Coordinate with field teams to ensure adherence to donor communication guidelines and branding standards.
- Work with program/project teams to manage a dissemination plan for communications materials, including reports.
Digital and Online Platform Management
- Maintain and update the organization’s website regularly.
- Ensure timely updates of shared digital assets, such as Inuru.
- Create compelling content for social media, increasing audience engagement and reach.
Support Media Relations
- Monitor, maintain, and update media lists and databases.
- Assist with media engagement and liaison efforts.
Support Knowledge Management & Reporting
- Develop project summaries for all new initiatives.
- Contribute to monthly newsletters and knowledge-sharing materials.
Program Support:
- Capture high-quality photography and short videos for events and field visits.
- Support the development of communications products and materials, including IEC materials, publications, etc.
Administrative & Logistical support:
- Assist with logistics related to communications for campaigns, launches, and workshops.
WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
- Of course, You have at least 1 year of proven experience as a Communications Assistant or similar experience. Degree in Mass Communications, Journalism and Media, Public Relations, Digital Media and Strategic Communications, or any other related field. You have experience working closely with the media, strong brand management experience, experience working across teams to establish communications needs and co-designing communications products, experience in sourcing, coordinating, and publishing website content, good photography skills, good verbal and written communication skills with knowledge of both internal and external communications environments. You have ability to research, establish, and maintain relationships with journalists/members/public officials. Commitment to staying abreast of communications and storytelling trends within the nonprofit industry and applying best practices and new ideas to our communications work. You have a good understanding of print and production processes, etc. You have ability to travel to Oxfam’s program locations to gather stories. Potential and flexibility of attitude to learn and take on new tasks. You have ability to demonstrate sensitivity to cultural differences and gender issues, as well as the commitment to equal opportunities. You have ability to demonstrate an openness and willingness to learn about the application of gender/gender mainstreaming, women’s rights, and diversity for all aspects of development work.
