KEY STAKEHOLDERS

Working closely with journalists, other international NGOs, Oxfam colleagues (across the globe), and partner organisations. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (Technical, Leadership, People and Resource management)

  • Produce and develop high quality written and multimedia materials and content aligned to Oxfam’s core mandate, abiding by agreed Oxfam messaging and sign off protocol and in coordination with the Influencing team.
  • Support media and communications work around emergencies and campaigns on Gaza with the regular production of quickly turned around assets – photo, video, audio, written.
  • Build and maintain a bank of up-to-date, evergreen assets and data for use throughout the Oxfam confederation and coalition work.
  • Act as a spokesperson for Oxfam in media interviews as required, and brief other staff ahead of interviews and public events
  • Build relationships with media/comms colleagues in other organizations (e.g. NGOs, UN agencies, civil society) to coordinate and collaborate on projects
  • Provide regular analysis of Gaza media coverage and outlets.
  • Provide support to ensure Oxfam’s media preparedness and response during OPT’s humanitarian emergencies is timely and in line with Oxfam’s ‘Humanitarian Media Protocol’ and delivered in close collaboration with media colleagues across the organisation. 
  • Engage and develop productive relationships with journalists working on OPT in key regional and global media outlets including the international wires, and contribute to updating and expanding Oxfam’s journalist database.
  • Support and facilitation of all media materials that are issued by the country office – social media, publications, media, reports, brochures, and high quality, impactful products are created that are suitable for an international audience, ensuring appropriate sign off protocols are adhered to.
  • In liaison with the influencing team, leading on the in-country creation of compelling, creative, and engaging visual storytelling products to create a sense of connection and understanding in the wider public of the daily realities of life in Gaza for Palestinians.
  • Work with Palestinian communities in Gaza, empowering them to share their experiences and stories. Amplifying their voices.
  • Work with colleagues across OPT to gather human-interest stories and newsworthy content and , in line with Oxfam’s content gathering guidelines.
  • Work closely with colleagues across Oxfam to pitch and lead on potential stories and media moments from the ground that will resonate with a wider audience.
  • Identify moments for media and communications work in external markets, informing and advising external comms & media personnel and supporting on products and messaging.
  • Ensure donor requirements for projects are aligned with and promote the media and communication strategies.
  • Use media applications to edit and subtitle Oxfam’s media products.
  • Develop technical communication ToRs , scripts and creative briefs to ensure production of high quality communication contents in coordination with the communication / media team.
  • Provide communications input into programme proposals and donor reports in order to meet visibility requirements, increase programme impact, help bring policy change; and ensure links between our programmes and advocacy work. This will involve adapting complex policy and development issues for different target audiences.
  • Work with local media in Gaza and regional Arabic media to proactively generate coverage of Oxfam’s programmes and strategic advocacy objectives.
  • Support engagement with international media to raise global awareness on the situation for people in Gaza, including developing news and feature stories, organizing trips and briefings, and documenting evidence-based information
  • Support local partner organizations to develop high impact media and communications strategies and products, including stories, case studies, audio-visual material and press releases
  • Work with the influencing team to arrange training opportunities to strengthen the capacity of Oxfam staff and partner organizations to produce high quality media and communications products and carry out media interviews.
  • Seek opportunities to amplify the media work of local partner organisations.
  • Work closely with the procurement team to develop strategic framework agreements with content producers and manage contract performance.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & COMPETENCIES

ESSENTIAL

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, mass communication, development studies, social work or a related field with at least 5 years of relevant work experience gained within a civil society organization, media, communications or public relations team
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills in Arabic and English
  • Knowledge of local, regional and international mass media with a track record of success and results achieved; (job specific)
  • Be well informed on local and international news
  • Recognize media and storytelling opportunities and be able to quickly turn around into media/ comms ready-to use materials
  • Experience of producing high quality written and audio-visual materials,
  • Proficient in the use and understanding of media production tools (writing, filming, editing, motion, sound editing and photography) including experience using relevant editing software
  • Professional communications skills, gained within a journalism/PR environment, to communicate and adapt complex policy and development issues to different levels of target audience; (job specific)
  • Excellent networking and negotiation skills to develop good working relationships within Oxfam and with the media; (communications; influencing others)
